Safe and fit for purpose equipment saves lives!
The Safe Equipment Scheme, why it exists?
In terms of Occupational Health and Safety Act NO.85 of 1993 (OHS Act), Section 10:
“10. General duties of manufacturers and others regarding articles and substances for use at work…
1. Any person who designs, manufactures, imports, sells or supplies an article for use at work shall ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, that the article is safe and without risks to health when properly used and that it complies with all prescribed requirements.
2. Any person who erects or installs any article for use at work on or in any premises shall ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, that nothing about the manner in which it is erected installed makes it unsafe or creates a risk to health when properly used.”
And derived from the Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER), Regulation 5, SAGA has been mandated by the Department of Labour as the Verifying Authority for Natural Gas and Liquified Petroleum Gas industrial equipment in conformance with SANS 329 and SANS 347 specifications.
The Mandate from Department of Labour and the Memorandum of Understanding between the LPGSASA and SAGA co-signed by the Department of Labour on 27 July 2010.
